Schalmont to celebrate Homecoming 2011

Sept. 26, 2011—Homecoming has always been a time of year when the Schalmont community and alumni traditionally come together to celebrate what makes it special.

But over the past few weeks, students, staff and faculty have shown that Sabre pride and community spirit is an ever-present part of life in our schools.

"It has been amazing to watch our school community rise to the occasion to support their friends and neighbors in need," said Superintendent Dr. Valerie Kelsey about a variety of efforts currently underway to help those affected by massive flooding in Schenectady and Schoharie counties.

Community members are asked to rally together once again during the homecoming festivities on Saturday, Oct. 15. High school students will participate in a week of celebrations leading up to the day of sports, entertainment and the homecoming football game on Saturday.

In addition to the traditional homecoming football game, a 5K race and 1K walk/kid's run has been planned as well as an all-day bottle drive. Proceeds from both events will benefit Rotterdam Junction relief efforts.

A schedule for the homecoming festivities is listed below.

Don't forget to show your spirit on Saturday by wearing lots of green! If you do, you'll receive a free raffle ticket to enter the Schalmont Athletic Association's "Wear Green Raffle" for one of five prizes.

We hope to see you there!
