But over the past few weeks, students, staff and faculty have
shown that Sabre pride and community spirit is an ever-present
part of life in our schools.
"It has been amazing to watch our school community rise to the
occasion to support their friends and neighbors in need," said
Superintendent Dr. Valerie Kelsey about a variety of efforts
currently underway to help those affected by massive flooding in
Schenectady and Schoharie counties.
The community is being asked to rally together once again during
the homecoming festivities on Saturday, Oct. 15.
In addition to the traditional homecoming football game, a 5K
race and 1K walk/kid's run has been planned. Proceeds from the
event will benefit the Rotterdam Junction relief efforts.
To participate, a $20 donation is being sought from adults and
$10 from students and youth.
Donors will receive a t-shirt and be able to participate in a
social gathering after the event.
Donations and registration forms should be submitted by
Oct. 5.
The Schalmont sports team with the most participants
will win a prize from the
Schalmont
Athletic Association.
"We hope you will be able to reach into your hearts and wallets
to help those in need," said SAA member Steve Frank, who
has been
instrumental in organizing the annual homecoming event.
Registration starts at 8 a.m. with the run beginning at 9 a.m.
and the walk/kid's run at 10 a.m. at Schalmont High School's
athletic fields.
"It's going to be a great day," said
SAA President Kerry Frank.
"What better way to build community spirit and pride in our
school district than by supporting each other."

If you enjoy running,
consider training for the Cardiac Classic with your friends and
neighbors. Training begins
Monday, Oct. 17 for a six-week program available through
Schalmont's Adult Education program. It will prepare walkers and
runners for the annual event in Schenectady's Central Park on
Thanksgiving morning. Beginners will follow the Couch to 5K
training program while more experienced runners go for longer
runs.
