August 31, 2011—The Schalmont Central School District is calling
on the community's generosity to help local families affected by
Tropical Storm Irene.
The storm caused severe flooding and damage throughout
Schenectady and Schoharie counties, displacing a number of
Schalmont families, staff and businesses.
A collection drive is currently underway.
Donations of clothing, household items, cleaning supplies
(bleach, mops), toiletries, first-aid supplies and
non-perishable food may be dropped off at Jefferson Elementary
School during school hours as well as throughout the evening.
Money gift cards (American Express, Visa etc.) are also welcome.
District officials are confident the school community will pull
together to help those in the area who have lost so much in the
past few days.
