Jan. 23, 2012—Nominations for the next group of inductees on
Schalmont High School's Alumni Wall of Distinction
are now
being accepted through Monday, March 19.

| Last year,
James J. Ryan, PhD, MD, class of 1974; and Edward
Troiano, class of 1980 were inducted
into the Wall of Distinction. Ryan was nominated
posthumously for his cutting-edge research in the field
of human genetics as related to seeking cures for
cancer. Troiano was recognized for his devotion to the
research and engineering field, and to volunteering in
his community and around the country.

The Wall of Distinction,
which is located in the high school lobby, was established in
2007 during the district's
50th
anniversary celebrations
to not only shine a spotlight on the achievements of alumni, but
also provide inspiration and motivation to current students.
There are currently 15 honorees.
Those nominated must have:
- Graduated from
Schalmont High School after 1957.
- Been out of
secondary school for at least five years.
- Demonstrated
significant contributions to their school, community and/or
country in areas such as (but not limited to):
o Professional achievements (work-related accomplishments,
publications),
o Community/civic involvement,
o Educational achievements,
o Honors or awards,
o Leadership positions,
o Ethical/humanitarian efforts, and
o Personal/family accomplishments.
To nominate someone for this honor, download a
nomination form (PDF) or call 355-9200, ext. 4006, to
receive one by mail.
Selected nominees, or their representatives if they were
nominated posthumously, will be asked to attend an induction
ceremony on Wednesday,
June 6, at 4:30 p.m. in the high school.
The ceremony will be open to the public and followed by a
reception.
