March 2, 2011—A committee
has been formed to help ease the transition for fifth-grade students to
the middle/high school campus next year, following the
Schalmont Board of Education's decision to relocate
these students as part of a school building reconfiguration
process.
Parents of fifth-graders, teachers and staff were
encouraged to get involved in a
Fifth-Grade Transition Committee, which will be
co-chaired by Schalmont Middle School Principal Michael
Kondratowicz and Jefferson Elementary School Principal Joby
Gifford.
"As our district moves forward with this change, we look forward
to the collaboration and planning with members of our school
community to ensure the success of our students," wrote
Kondratowicz and Gifford in a letter to parents of the
district's current fourth-graders.
The group will meet several times throughout
March to discuss logistics, activities and transportation
for next year's fifth-graders, as well as to address questions brought up
during the roundtable discussions held earlier this fall and
winter.
View
meeting agendas and minutes, which will be posted online and
distributed via backpack mail in an
effort to keep the community informed of the transition process.
