"Where the sounds of learning grow through the music we make!"
Mrs. Eileen Scheffer, Music Coordinator
Music in Schalmont
The Schalmont Music Department hopes to provide for each student an eclectic look at the world of
music. Our goal is to maintain a strong music program for students from
kindergarten through the 12th grade. We offer a wide variety of experiences throughout their academic years, and we constantly challenge our students to go beyond the written musical note. The language of music is taught in all music classes as well as in all performing groups. Our curriculum is aligned with the New York State Learning Standards,
and students have many opportunities to perform, listen and create music throughout their years at Schalmont.
As a faculty, we understand the importance of a K-12 curriculum
because we see the value of our youngest musicians developing into many of our top musicians at the
high school level.
Studies have proven the importance of music in a child's life. New brain research shows
music as not only being fun, but also that it improves our brain development and even enhances skills in other subjects such as reading and writing. Our music staff is committed to offering excellent instructional experiences to enhance our future musicians. We are very proud of our performing groups at Schalmont, and invite you to stop by any time to the many concerts,
plays or performances held throughout the school year.

News: 2007-2008 School Year
STUDENTS SELECTED TO
PERFORM AT NYSSMA ALL-STATE CONFERENCE
We
are pleased to announce that two of our vocal students were
selected from among applicants across the state to perform with
the New York State School Music
Association (NYSSMA) All-State groups the weekend of
November 29 - December 2 in Rochester. Maria Pizzino will
be singing with the Women's Chorus, and Louis Lohraseb
will be singing in the Mixed Chorus. This is quite an honor for
them and the school. They were selected from thousands of
students who performed in the NYSSMA Spring solo competitions
last year. They both had to receive scores over 98 to put them
in these groups. John Chandler was also selected as an
alternate to the group, which also is quite an honor. We wish
Maria and Louis good luck in their performances, and are
confident they will represent the high marks of the Schalmont
Music Department.
STUDENTS ATTEND AREA
ALL-STATE FESTIVAL AT SARATOGA HIGH SCHOOL
We
are pleased to announce that six Schalmont High School students

honor to be chosen for this endeavor. We were proud and pleased
to have them represent our school. Representing us in the chorus
was: Robert White, John Chandler, Ricky Darling, and
Jacob Bates. Peter Trichinelli was in the band, and Eric
Ciarmello was in the jazz ensemble. Congratulations to all!
