UPDATE:
On May 16th Schalmont voters
approved a $32.8 million budget by a margin of 713 to 657.
Residents also passed a proposition to purchase 6 new
school buses (4 large, 2 small) by a margin of 733 to 614.
Three board of education members were elected. Denise Pendt (868 votes) and Albert Falcone
(825 votes) will serve on the board for full three-year
terms. Kevin Thompson (816 votes) will serve the remaining
two years of an unexpired term.
Budget details:
This year's proposal is for $38.2 million, a $1.7million
increase over last year's budget (+4.66%).
The estimated tax impact of the
budget is 5.82%, the lowest tax increase in
recent years for the district. A homeowner with a
full-value assessment of $100,000 ($3,820 in Rotterdam)
will see an increase of $131.67 on next year's tax bill.
The proposed budget has five major focus areas based on
the district's goals:
