Joby Gifford has served as
the principal of Jefferson Elementary School since June 2005.
Prior to that, he served as the assistant principal at Jefferson
for two years. He originally came to Schalmont in 1996, first as
a teacher of grades two and three at Woestina Elementary. He
later transferred to Jefferson, where he taught fifth grade.
Gifford earned a bachelor’s degree from
SUNY Plattsburgh and a Master of Science Degree in reading
from the University at Albany. He also maintains permanent
certification as a school administrator/supervisor, a
certificate which he obtained from the University at
Albany. Gifford is currently pursuing a certificate of
advanced study from the University at Albany.
His professional memberships include
the National Association of Elementary School Principals and
the Association of Supervision and Curriculum
Development. Gifford also serves on the University at
Albany’s Phi Delta Kappa executive board as treasurer.
He and his wife have two children.
