 Schalmont School News Notifier

Schalmont is pleased to offer "School News Notifier" (SNN), an opt-in news service designed to help keep parents and the community more in touch with what is happening at Schalmont schools via e-mail and/or text message.

Parents and residents can sign up to receive e-mail messages from different schools and even text messages regarding school closings/delays due to inclement weather or other reason. With SNN, administrators have the power to send updates and reminders about school activities, information about school closings and delays, and notices about changes in sex offender residency among other news. Users can choose to receive any or all of the alerts and can unsubscribe at any time. **Your personal information will be kept confidential.**

Click here to continue to the School News Notifier Home Page

How do I sign up?

Go to the SNN home page and create a profile. You will be asked to fill in your name, e-mail address, and your cell phone information (if you elect to sign up for text messages), and to select a password. Once you create your profile, you will be asked to select which notifications you would like to receive. Once you choose your notifications and click "subscribe," you will be all set! (You can change your selected notifications at any time by logging into the system.)

What alerts can I receive?

Presently the district is offering the following alerts:

  • School Closings and Delays: Find out via e-mail if school will be closed or delayed due to inclement weather or another reason. This will feature district-wide cancellations only.

  • District News: Sign up for this alert if you are interested in learning about:
    • Upcoming Schalmont Board of Education meetings,
    • The school budget and budget planning sessions,
    • Events/topics that affect the whole district, and
    • Changes in sex offender residency. You'll receive a notice when the school district is notified by police that a registered sex offender has moved into or changed residency in the district. This is a rare occurrence, but signing up for this notification will give you quick access to whatever information we receive from the state or town police. You also can find information on sex offenders at any time on the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services website.

  • Jefferson News: This alert will contain information related strictly to activities at Jefferson Elementary School.

  • Middle School News: This alert will contain information related strictly to activities at the Middle School.

  • High School News: This alert will contain information related strictly to activities at the High School.

How often will I receive an alert?

The number of messages you receive will depend on which notifications you sign up for and how the principal of your child's school chooses to utilize the system.

How do I unsubscribe?

If you decide that you don't want to receive any updates from Schalmont's SNN system, it is easy to unsubscribe. When you visit the SNN home page, there is an "unsubscribe" link on the right hand navigational rail. Click on it, fill in the form and you're done!

Can my group (team, class, etc.) send out an alert?

The system can be very useful for sending out reminders for PTO meetings or information on cancelled activities. Please contact your school's principal to discuss how you may utilize the system. If you are interested in sending out a district related message to those who have signed up to receive district-wide news, please contact the district communications specialist at 355-9200, x4006.
